When we hosted our inaugural exhibition, Quarantine Dreams, the world had reached a boiling point: George Floyd's murder occupied every corner of the news as ugly truths were brought to light. The incredible women artists behind Quarantine Dreams knew that they wanted to take part in writing a better story for our community - a story rooted in love and connection, a bridge to gap the obvious neglect until now. The artists, along with the KALICO Board of Directors, came together with a decision to use the proceeds of the show to create an opportunity for our underrepresented fellow artists. This microgrant opportunity was created in an effort to help address the structural racial inequity that is present in our current society. As an art center that prides itself on being diverse and accessible to all ages and abilities, bringing equity and breaking down implicit bias is an ongoing, continual process the senior staff and board of directors are committed to.
