Dear KALICO Friends,
We are so thankful for you and your support of the dream that is KALICO. As many of you know, we launched this vision into the wild just as the world was shutting down during the pandemic and to say it put a damper on our plans is an understatement. In the midst of our disappointment and frustration, we were able to quickly pivot to provide something else that was so needed: a way to connect safely through art with each other. We hosted digital drink’n draw, handed out art packets, and provided pottery kits to go; creativity thrived in chaos. A valuable take away from this time of flexibility and reimagining was that we were, we are, more than the space we inhabit.
That being said, the time has come for more reimagining at KALICO. Opening our doors when we did, unfortunately just did not give us the foundation we needed to establish ourselves well in the downtown area. And while we have loved this space we have housed KALICO in for the last three years, we have also felt and seen the need for a different space that can better embody all of the creative programming we hope to offer our community. So, we have made the decision to leave the building we are currently in at 149 Main Street and exist without walls while we reevaluate and reimagine a space that could better suit us. We have so loved watching each and every person show up with courageous creativity in this space and we hope you will bear with us as we transition into this nomadic state for a time while until we find a new home.
If you or someone you know has a space that is just begging to be filled with creativity, connection, and community, please let us know! KALICO belongs to us all and we love the idea of including you, our supporters, our patrons, our friends, in the search for a new space to call our own.
We enter this new season with the hope that the financial breathing room this will create will offer new insight into our next steps. If you have projects waiting to be completed please come in and pick them up Tuesdays 11am-4pm through August 9th. Come say goodbye to this space, but not to the dream. We are only just beginning.
In gratitude and hope,
-Alisha Shilling, Board Chair and KALICO founder
